Education

Church School

Our Church School students attend classes from the Sunday after Labor Day until the first Sunday in June.  In addition to Church School classes the children are afforded an opportunity to participate in a music program as an Advent/Christmas Pageant.  The students are also given the opportunity to help others by walking in the CROP Walk and "sell" animals to support Heifer Project International during the Heifer Fair.  There is also a party near All Saints' Day for the children. The culminating Church School activity, where attendance awards are given, is the Parish Picnic, usually held on the second Sunday of June.

We offer classes for everyone using age-appropriate curriculum.  All classes are on two-year cycles, based on birth date.  This enables a smooth transition from the Children's Program to the Youth Program, Journey to Adulthood.

Children's Program

Nursery (Children born on or after July 1, 2002) - This "Co-Op" nursery offers our youngest members a place to play during the 10:00am service.  Parents and/or grandparents volunteer on a rotating basis to care for the children.

Pre-Kinders (Children born between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002) - This class engages the children in age-appropriate Bible stories and crafts for hands-on learning.

Kinders (Children born between July 1, 1999 and June 30, 2001) - These children will be engaged in hands-on Bible stories and crafts.

Primary (Children born between July 1, 1997 and June 30, 1999) - This class uses Episcopal Children's Curriculum (ECC). ECC uses lessons based on the Bible and teaches the traditions of the Episcopal Church through The Book of Common Prayer and songs from The Hymnal 1982.

Intermediate (Children born between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1997) - The students in this class continue their journey in faith with the continuation of Episcopal Children's Curriculum.

Youth Program

Journey to Adulthood is a six-year faith formation program for 11 to 18 year-olds.  This program offers our youth a safe place to question, learn and grow into mature Christian adults.

It explores four major areas: self, society, sexuality and spirituality, based on the tenant that manhood and womanhood are gifts from God and that adulthood must be earned.  The program is divided into three two-year phases.

Rite-13 (Youth born between July 1, 1993 and June 30, 1995) - The youth in this phase must turn 13 by the end of the second year.  Rite-13 recognizes the passage from childhood to manhood and womanhood with a ceremony recognizing the need for help for the young people and their parents from their peers, the congregation and God.

J2A (Youth born between July 1, 1991 and June 30, 1993) - This class works with young people as they practice adult skills.  The second year incorporates Confirmation preparation, with emphasis on each young person deciding whether he or she is ready to make an adult pronouncement of faith.  This program helps to establish that Confirmation is not a rite of passage, nor a "graduation" from Church, but a sacrament.  In order to pratice their adult skills and to encounter God, the youth go on an Urban Adventure at the end of the first year and a Pilgrimage at the end of the second year.

Young Adults in the Church (YAC) (Youth who have complleted J2A, but have not graduated from high school) - These youth are asked to assume adult responsibilities.  They are expected to participate in a chosen ministry.  There are also opportunities for continued study, outreach ministries, social gatherings and more.
