Are you confirmed? No. Would you like to be?
Were you confirmed in another denomination? Yes.
Would you like to formalize your membership by being received into the Episcopal Church?
At the beginning of June, Bishop Garrison will make his bi-annual visit to St. Mark’s. As a part of that visit, the Bishop offers the sacrament of Confirmation to those who have never been confirmed. In addition to offering Confirmation, Bishop Garrison will also receive people into the Episcopal Church who were confirmed in another denomination, but have yet to formalize their membership.
If you have done neither of these then now is the time to act.
Now you might be saying, isn’t Confirmation just for teenagers? No. Confirmation is a sacrament that is available to anyone who hasn’t been confirmed. Confirmation is a sacrament in which one makes a mature commitment of faith, before the bishop, by the renewing of his baptismal vows. The bishop then lays his hands on this person, invoking the Holy Spirit to strengthen and equip this person for ministry and membership in the church. Since both Confirmation and Reception involves making a mature decision, I think it’s important for each candidate to know what they are getting themselves into.
Therefore, if you would like to be Confirmed or Received, you will need to be a part of the upcoming Inquirer’s Class. The focus of the Inquirer’s Class will be on what it means to be an Episcopalian and a Christian person during the 21st Century. Our Inquirer’s Class will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. in the undercroft during the four Sundays in March. It’s important to note that the Inquirer’s Class is available for anyone who would like to know more about the Episcopal Church, not just for those being Confirmed or Received.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Fr. Sean.
PLEDGE UPDATE.
In 2010, we have 109 families who have pledged $221,552. This year the average pledge is $2032. Last year, St. Mark’s had 114 families pledge $225,600. The average annual pledge was $1978. Although we have a little less pledged in 2010, it was great to see the average pledge increase by $54 dollars. If you haven’t pledged to St. Mark’s in 2010 and would like to please contact the church office for a pledge card.

FOOD FOR THE POOR
SUNDAY, MARCH 21
Fr. Thomas Chesterman, Guest Preacher
8:00 a. m. and 10:00 a.m.
“As often as you did it to one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it to me.”
-- Matthew 25:40
Food For the Poor was founded on the basis of this Gospel. We seek out the poorest of the poor in 16 different countries, aiding some of the most destitute. In each face we see the living Christ, who is hungry, thirsty, a stranger and naked. Our ministry focuses on the greatest needs of the destitute. Just as Our Lord served those society ignored, we are there; feeding the hungry, building water wells for thirsty villages, building houses for the homeless, aiding the impoverished elderly, raising orphans in a loving atmosphere of Christian discipline, healing the sick or overcoming illiteracy by supporting schools.
$21 will provide a meal for 420 children.
$36 will feed three families for a month.
$50 will help provide medical and nutritional aid for severely malnourished children.
$90 will provide a goat to supply milk.
Founded in 1982, Food For the Poor is an interdenominational Christian ministry working to end the suffering of the poor in the Caribbean and Latin America. Food for the Poor are good stewards. More than 96% of all donations received go directly to programs that help the poor. With God’s grace and your help, we hope to continue serving our Lord by helping those who are struggling for survival.
“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words!”
-St. Augustine

PRAYER FOR ELECTION OF A NEW BISHOP.
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously upon your Church and so
guide the minds of those who shall choose a Bishop for this Diocese of Western New
York, that we may receive a faithful spiritual leader, who will care for your people and
equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ your Lord. Amen.
A PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF HAITI
The seas roar, the earth shakes, buildings crumble, roofs topple and walls turn to dust. Have mercy on the people of Haiti, O God. Nations watch, alarms sound, traffic halts, utilities stop, and news is hard to verify. Give us compassion to weep with those who weep, O God. People die, families mourn, mountains split, infrastructure and superstructure alike are gone. Make us swift to help and persistent to rebuild, not just things and structures, but lives, O God: Through Christ, the solid Rock. Amen.
